Samsung Dual Screen

“Samsung release a dual screen camera”

Just a quick blog/rant this morning. I thought I had to write a quick note about Samsung’s new ‘Dual Screen’ point and shoot camera.12.2 Megapixel, Schneider Kreuznach lens, 3.5” screen on the back. It all looks quite impressive. I haven’t owned any Samsung camera but I’ve heard that they are good value for money.

BUT! And this is a big BUT! The problem is, this camera has a 1.5” LCD screen on the front of the camera. OK at first this seems like a nifty little feature and might be useful when you are taking the odd self portrait or group shot. In these cases it should enable you to see what the photograph looks like before you take it.
And herein lays the problem. We’ve all taken a shapshot using our digital cameras and immediately the subject will say ‘Le’me see, le’me see!’ This means for the next minute or two you will be showing every person in your group photo your results. As a result you’re using up your time displaying your work rather than taking photographs.

With this new ‘Dual Screen’ camera the subject will be able to see the results BEFORE you take the photograph. So now the ‘Le’me see’ will be replaced by ‘Hang’onna minute’ while they adjust their hair/tie/makeup etc.

As a wedding photographer we don’t tend to get the ‘Le’me see’ problem so much….until after dark. When we are staying for a late shoot to cover the first dance and evening do the wedding guests tend to get a little more ‘confident’. Then we have to politely decline any requests to see the images we are taking. The guests always respect this and we are free to carry on taking photographs. Hopefully the dual screen technology will never be introduced to DSLR cameras or all this might change!

Dave.
