The Wedding of Julia & Nick Walsh – Oxwich, Swansea

Another stunning wedding this weekend but this time it was a little different. Karl’s sister Julia and her fiance Nick were getting married at the Oxwich Bay Hotel in the Gower, Swansea. Obviously we offered our services for free. I have to say that this was one of the most beautiful wedding venues that I [...]

Wedding photography and ‘Photoshopping’

Whenever I meet a potential customer interested in booking Kapow as their wedding photographers, I’m always asked ‘Do you use Photoshop?’ I have to say that the question is nearly always asked by the bride as they seem terrified that a rogue spot might spoil their wedding photographs on their special day. Myself and Karl [...]

Is digital photography ‘art’?

Recently I was asked an interesting question about photography. A friend of mine asked me if I thought digital photography could be thought of as ‘art’. I don’t think that there can be one definitive answer. There are so many different styles and techniques and subjects that the answer has to be ‘it depends’. With [...]

The Wedding of Laura & Ben, Craig-y-nos Castle, Ystradgynlais

There was a late night for Kapow last night after a great day at Craig-y-nos Castle near Swansea. We were booked to do the wedding photography for Laura and Ben Royle. With the weather looking pretty grim all week things looked up as I drove past Cardiff. Blue skies and some scttered white clouds, absolutely [...]

Faces all over the Places

Just a quick post today to let you know about a Facebook group created by an old friend of mine from Pontypool, Dan Hubert. Such a great idea and good way of getting you out with the camera and thinking about your photography.

Wedding Photography and the iPad

Apple announced a few weeks ago a new ‘notebook killer’ called the iPad. The best way I’ve heard it described is by Charlie Brooker when he said ‘It’s like an iPhone in an unhandy, non pocket-sized sort of way’ Well, he’s half right. It’s very similar to the iPhone and iPod Touch in that you [...]

Focus on Imaging

Myself and Karl have just got back from the Focus on Imaging show at the Birmingham NEC. It’s a 4 day trade show put on for photographers and people in the print industry. Exhibitors included Canon, HP, Adobe, Hassleblad and some tiny irrelevant camera company called Nicam or something.

Photographic Composition

Sometimes while taking photographs,  whether it be a beautiful landscape or even a not so beautiful person you might find that your photographs don’t turn out quite like you intended. They seem to lack that, dare I say it, X-Factor! The chances are that without knowing it you are breaking some of the basic rules [...]

Digital Photo Editing – Google Picnik

Nowadays Digital Photography is everywhere. Now even the most basic of mobile phones are able to capture digital images. The more expensive ones rival the images that were taken by professional DSLRs only a few years ago. The trouble is as we know, memory cards are cheap and once you’ve bought one it is free [...]
