Wedding photographer Usk

Back in February I was fortunate to be the wedding photographer for Carole and Dale at their wedding at the Glen – Yr – Afon House Hotel in Usk, Monmouthshire. This stunning wedding venue in South Wales has a fantastic appearance for a wedding backdrop to any photographs. Set in the heart of the countryside near Cwmbran and Pontypool the architecture of this beautiful privately owned Victorian Villa means that none of its 27 rooms are the same, the angles creating rooms of individual character, style and space which makes the wedding photographers job a lot easier when it comes to creativity from behind the lens.

The gardens at the hotel also provide excellent greenery and that can be used as backdrops for the group photography and there are many excellent small areas of beauty tucked away around the hotel that a bride and groom can be taken to to achieve some modern classy photographs that are also out of the direct sunlight.

Carole looked stunning and we were able to get some “hair and makeup” shots in the bridal suite before the ceremony. With the bar highly polished and some colourfull optics on display I decided to do some groom and best man shots at the bar beforehand and it still amazes me the sharpness and vivid colours that will stand out as the optics did when shooting indoors in a darker area such as a bar when using the nikon d700 even at 1800 iso or higher. Sometimes its important to capture the ambience of the moment and turn the flash off; relying soley on the cameras iso settings to get the shot. Fortunatly with the d700 this is possible!

The cermony room is a lot lighter than the bar and when Carole walked down the aisle the large windows and sheer size of the room meant that my auto iso settings were coming back down to a near 200 with some shots only creeping up to 320. With the sun breaking through the clouds at just the right time, it meant the group shots could be taken outside on the grass straight after he ceremony. All in all it was a great day all round, for the happy couple, guests and also us as wedding photographers.
