Swansea University photography

As a Photographer Swansea often provides us with many corporate and commercial photographer jobs that we undertake during the winter months when the weddings are quiet. This morning We were working at Swansea University. We had been asked by the University to undertake some photography at the campus. A new revamped area for Swansea students at the main Fulton House entrance has a cost cutter supermarket, a coffee shop and a clothes shop. As well as photos of this, several new science labs that have recently been fitted out needed documenting so that the university can use the images on websites and literature going forward.

With this type of photography its very rare we would use any sort of presets or colour changes. Its what I like to call documentary photography; shooting it as it is, wide angle and as sharp and in focus as possible so that the viewer gets a true record of how it really is. This may seem like boring photography and in a way it is, but it serves a purpose. Its very similar to group photography at weddings in that group photography is traditionally a way of documenting what each family member is wearing. They are photographed for a record of this and how they look rather than some romantic summery or vintage dream.

Anyway, here are a few that were taken this morning. Just to give you an idea of the sort of photography work that we do outside of the wedding season….

360 Swansea Beach and Watersports

We were lucky enough this weekend as Swansea Photographer to be asked cover the launch of the new Beach and Watersports centre in Swansea Bay. 360 Beach and Watersports  has been years in the planning and opened its doors to the public on what was one of the luckiest weekends of the year for the weather! Despite the recent October rain, Swansea Bay was basked in more like mediterranean autumn sunshine. With little wind and almost glassy water conditions for the kayakers and SUP (Stand up paddle) boarders to enjoy. The centre which offers a range of beach sports aswell as watersports also caters for those sunday afternoon strollers with a wide variety of fantastic food and drink at their coffee shop and cafe.

One of my main passions in life is surfing and kayaking and generally anything that involves the sea! I have an obsession that can only be equalled by my love of photography! This weekend therefore didn’t seem like work for me at all as I made my way down to the centre. With zoom lenses / Go Pro cameras and wetsuit and got stuck into some beach photography work. With high tide early on Saturday morning  and the volleyball nets and beach football pitch set up; it was exciting to see the mix of students, children and passers by chill out with a coffee or engage in tuition from the 360 crew. They all tried their hand at the sports on offer.

The centre which is located opposite St Helens offers a menu of food and drink from early morning up until late 7 days a week 364 days a year as well as changing facilities, watersports hire and beach sports.  Kapow would like to wish Ben and the 360 team all the very best with the business. Below are some of my favourite photos from the weekend.. Karl
